We found Dusty and his siblings in a hollowed out tree stump in Savannah, Georgia. Though we aren't sure exactly how old they were at the time the vet estimated them to be about 2-3 weeks old.

So Dusty is celebrating his 15th year with us and his 15th birthday! Won't you help us celebrate his birthday?

I would post a picture but he's sleeping under the covers on the bed right now. I guess even a kitty can get tired of the paparazzi. :-)

Hi everyone!

It's Caboodle Ranch. Rescuing kitties is the most wonderful thing anyone can do. And Mr. Craig is showing what one man can accomplish with a lot of love and work. Remember if Mom and Dad servant hadn't rescued me I doubt I would still be alive today because feral kitties don't always live long and with my asthma I would not have made it on the street.

Anwering some questions

Here are answers to some questions about my last post and about Dusty.

*Yes, Dusty was actually born in Savannah, Georgia.
* He was born outside the apartment in the picture really!
* The apartment you see is the area I write about in the book.
* Behind our apartment was a salt water marsh and beside the apartment were woods. There was a lot of wildlife around us there! We had nightly raccoon visitors and also rumors of a gator in the marsh behind our apartment. Just like the one mentioned in the book. There were also rumors of wildcats in the marsh and woods as well.
* There was a colony of stray cats that lived around our apartment complex and Dusty's mother was actually named Custard. There had been a young girl living there before us that named all the kitties.
* When Dusty was little...Or perhaps I should say younger, the vet half-jokingly said she wondered if Dusty had some wildcat in him. He was a big kitten, once he started growing, and is still a big cat. He had some almost wild habits, too. Though we know he has Maine Coon in him somewhere there was always that in the back of our minds of who exactly was his Daddy.

As you can read, much of Dusty's story in the book is real and based on his real beginnings. We will never know for sure who his Daddy was and because he always had a "wild streak" in him we may always wonder a little about that. But what we do know is that we rescued a beautiful kitten that has grown into a beautiful older kitty. He has had a great life and we can't imagine our lives without him.

Dusty's birthplace

This past weekend we were in Savannah, Georgia and drove by the place we were living when we found and rescued Dusty 14 years ago.
It sure took us back seeing the place we lived and the place Dusty spent his first four months at. Here are a couple of pictures of his birthplace.

The apartment we lived in. It is the end one and Dusty would spend his days in the window on the bottom floor when he was big enough to jump up to it.

The tree stump is no longer there but if you look closely you can see an oval I put in the picture to show where the hollowed-out stump was. We remembered that day when I put my arm down in the ground and pulled up the kittens.

We found three kittens that day including Dusty. Dusty's sister lives with one of my brothers. The other kitten was taken in by one of our neighbors who loved cats as much as we did.
But it was a nice walk down "memory lane" to go back to the place where Dusty's story began. If you are ever in Savannah, Georgia you can go to Apache Avenue and see the place for yourself.

Feeling better

Thanks for all the prayers for Dusty. He is feeling much better now and should be able to wean back off the additional medicine and go back to his daily medicine.
Do any of you have asthma? If so you can understand what it is like, can't you?

Prayers for Dusty and book signing

Thanks to everyone for coming out for the book signing! Though a warm day we had a nice breeze that helped and enjoyed meeting the other authors there. I am sure had Dusty been there he would have stolen the show but I have some pictures of him at home afterward. Again he acts like he knows something is up but you always wonder what is actually going through the minds of cats anyway.
Below are a few pictures of yesterday. And yes, that is a neck brace I have on. I recently had surgery on some herniated discs in my neck so that is a precaution while my bones heal. So far so good.

Is he funny or what? Bathing one minute then he threw his head back and just sat there for a minute or two just looking up.

Again, more staring into space.

We ask for your prayers for Dusty, too. His asthma flared up tonight so he is now back on his medicine for flare-ups along with his daily medicine for his asthma. Remember God cares for His animals and hears our prayers for them as well.

Going to a book signing!

Saturday, June 19, I will be doing a book signing at the South Carolina Home Educators Association Convention in Sumter, SC. I will be located in the breezeway between the vendor hall and convention hall between 12:00 - 1:00 pm.

Dusty will not be able to join me however. But I will have pictures of Dusty and will gladly answer any questions you may have about Dusty, Priscilla, Saja or any of the other characters.

If you can come to the convention stop by and say hello! If you cannot make the convention but still would like a to have me sign a book, email me and I will send you a signed sticky label you can place in the front of your book.

Dusty All "Gussied Up"

So you're nobody till you've been ignored by a cat. I went to get some pictures of Dusty after his visit to the groomer. He was not happy at all to be in the limelight and pretty much told me about it. So here are the "gussied up" Dusty pictures with a little attitude to go with them.

Getting gussied up

Today Dusty has gone to the groomer. Since gaining so much weight with the asthma medicine he has to go to the groomer occasionally for a bath and brush-out. So today he is getting gussied up! If he is feeling up to it I might post a picture of him later.

He seems to know something is up lately. As if he knows he is a star on the rise. There might more trips to the groomer in the future especially if he becomes an in-demand star. :-)
